The numbers and sizes of bicycle tires

It ‘ll come as no surprise that there are bicycle tires in many different forms. There are big differences in pattern, size and above target. You can buy everything from studded tires and tires for BMX bikes to regular tires with a different pattern for adult and children’s bikes.

If you need to check the tire size your new bicycle tires must have, it is important that you see what numbers are on the old tire – it is the tire size. They are usually on the side of your bicycle tires, but the numbers are worn off, you may need to ask a specialist who knows the different types of bicycle tires. It may be your local dealer. Most often, you can easily find help on various websites on the Internet. If we assume that the numbers are not worn away on your deck and example is 32-622 on your bicycle tires, describes the 622 tire diameter, while the 32 stands for the width of your bike tires. If you find the width of your bike tires minor, simply use the diameter, which in this example is 622 Remember, however, that the rim of your bicycle tires must be narrower than the tire itself. If you choose to buy a bicycle tire that is wider than your old tires, be sure that the tire will be a bit higher. Therefore it is always a good idea to check the new tire size fit on your bike. Often, the trouble with the site, if your bike is equipped with screens. For the same reason, always check how much space is available for your bicycle tires on the front and rear fork before buying new bicycle tires.

Measure your bicycle wheel and tire size with table

If you are unsure of your bicycle tire size, you can look into a bicycle tire table where you can easily and simply find just the tires that fit your bike. Most lists the tire size both English, French and German targets and rim circumference in millimeters. This means that you can easily find the right tire size, although it is a Danish number.

In addition to the various international tire sizes are also available ETRTO list (European Tyre and Rim Organisation). It is precisely this list and these numbers say nothing about the diameter and width of your bicycle wheel, as described previously.

It is also possible to find a table of which corresponds to the tire air pressure, and an approximate weight of each bicycle tires. This may largely be a great advantage if, among other things need bicycle tires for a more professional needs or level. Often you can also find a table that says something about a price range for the selected bicycle tires.

If you could find it difficult to find your way around this table, or if you just can not find either deck or hoses that fit your bicycle wheel, you can always ask your local bicycle shop that can quickly help you with your tire size. It is not a must or a necessity that you know the size of your bicycle wheel or the old tire size. However, it is a good idea to know a little about these sizes in advance – especially if you have a special request for a particular tire size.

In other words, it is not that complex having to change the old tires on your bicycle wheels. Take a little time to familiarize yourself with smart table, or check out the old number on your bicycle tires. And as I said, you can always get help from a specialist, they will be happy to lend a hand!

The first set (700 x 35C) gives you an answer. 700 size wheels with 35″ width. 28 is another way of representing that 700 designation. (see http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html )

Are you after a new tire (the outside bit with the tread) or a new tube (the inside bit you inflate)? If it’s the latter, they’ll usually come with a range. You’ll also want to double check what kind of valve it uses (shrader or presta) .

  14. I hope you can help with this one, because it has got me baffled. My bike tires are currently in need of replacing and I read the numbers on it, which go 40-622 (700 x 38c 28 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2. Yet so far I have no indication of which tire I should be getting. I already tried looking at some sites and 28 is a weird size. So weird in fact that you really can’t find it. Not only that but the 40- 622 is what the tire says, yet it doesn’t match up with anything on the table. If anything one number matches up with a different tire, than the other. To put it simply the 40- 622 matches up with a different tire than the part that is. 28 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2. So do you have any advice on how I can find the tire I need?
